Hot Tubs – Does Size Matter

After more than twenty years in the hot tub industry, the most talked about item between consumers purchasing a new tub is size. The main question being, do small hot tubs offer the same therapy and allow for the same relaxation as larger hot tubs? If you take the time to research and take into account certain factors, then yes, small hot tubs can do everything their big brothers can do.

One important factor to consider is the number of people that may be using the hot tub at a time. If you have a large family or do a lot of entertaining, a 2 person hot tub won’t work for you. However, if only one or two people at a time will be using the tub, then a two or three person tub may be right for you. I usually advise that if a manufacturer suggests a certain hot tub holds a certain number of people, subtract one for comfort. Example – A five person tub will sit four comfortably. This means that a couple looking for an experience in a hot tub with room to stretch out and relax would be comfortable in a three person tub. Now, if you find a small hot tub that fits your needs, don’t feel that you are going to be shorted on the number of pumps or the amount of therapy you can receive. Small hot tubs can provide as little or as much therapy as you want.

The next factor to consider after size is how much therapy do you want or need. If you’re looking for a tub to just sit in and enjoy the hot water and bubbles, then a one pump system with a few jets is right for you. If you are looking for an all over body massage to penetrate deep into aching muscles, then you will want to find a tub with several pumps and dozens of jets to hit all the right spots. Most manufacturers have small tubs available, but doing the research into many manufacturers will help you find the ones that combine the small size with the power and therapy of a large hot tub if this is what is required.

So when buying a hot tub, remember, you don’t have to spend the extra money on that big hot tub if you don’t need the room. A small hot tub can give you all the benefits of a large one, at a smaller price, if you take the time to do the research needed. If possible, do your shopping in person. I tell people that a hot tub is like a car, you wouldn’t buy a car without driving it, so you shouldn’t buy a tub without getting it, and you cannot sit in a tub on the internet.
